Hi,
I have an APC Smart-UPS 1500 - Model; SUA1500I (http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=sua1500i&tab=models). The battery required replacement and I've just replaced it with the recommend battery RBC7 (http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=RBC7&tab=models). The replacement of the battery was very straight forward with help of the user manual. Since the battery has been replaced, the UPS will not turn on and I'm unsure why this is.
I thought the Overload Protector may have tripped because it seems to stick out about 5 mm but from looking at the forum (http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/1678/apc-smart-ups-1500-the-p...) this seems to be normal position for the type of overload protector.
We have followed the troubleshoot in the manual, changed the fuse in the plug and tested the utility power supply by connecting a handheld power tool which worked fine.
Any help at all will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Bernard.

Do you still have the old battery to try and connect to see if the UPS turns on? Was the UPS on with the old battery immediately before you replaced it or did it sit a while before you were able to get the replacement?
Usually these units will turn on with no battery connected. Only if they have been sitting for a while where the capacitors are completely discharged will they often require a "jumpstart."
What happens if you remove the AC power/unplug the UPS from the wall and then hold down the test button - does it beep or do anything? Does the new RBC7 measure any DC voltage (if you happen to have a voltmeter available)?

Hi Angela,
Thank you for your response!
We still have the old battery. With the old battery in the UPS, the UPS wil l not turn on. We turned off the machine (connected to the UPS) and the UPS about 10 days ago while we waited on the replacement battery.
As you suggested, I've unplugged the UPS from the wall and held down the test button - unfortunately, the UPS didn't beep, the lights didn't flash or anything like that. I don't have a voltmeter available this evening but I'll check this tomorrow and I'll let you know.
Thank you for your help Angela!
Bernard.

You're welcome! I'll see if I can come up with any other ideas too. Coldstarting the UPS (trying to turn the UPS when it is unplugged by holding down the test) at least eliminates any input power problems. Though, this was a genuine battery from APC, right? Does it have a serial number on it - to validate the age? Or was this an RBC from a third party?

That's good that it isn't an input power problem. Yes, the replacement battery is a genuine RBC7 which we purchased from APC. The old battery (which required replacing) is also a genuine RBC7. The old and new batteries both have serial numbers on them.
Thanks again for your help, Angela.

Hi Angela,
I checked the voltage of new battery (25.8 V) and the old battery (10.2 V) earlier this morning.
Thanks again!

Hmm, OK. So yes, that new battery is good voltage. Though, I'd have to say the UPS appears to be the culprit if unplugging it from AC power with the new battery securely connected while holding the "test" button does not give you any beeps or activity.

Ah no, I was hoping that the UPS wasn't the issue and that there was something we could do to fix it. In your opinion, do you think we should just replace it or would it be worth getting it serviced?
Thanks for all your help, Angela!

I think it might be worth while to look into something like the Trade-UPS program (to trade in this UPS for credit towards a new one) so that you could evaluate the cost of a new unit with new warranty versus a repair. I am not sure what it could be but I do think I would at least see if you do have any local repair options available while weighing a Trade UPS too.
Here is a link - it seems like its not available in all countries but if it is in yours once you check the website, you could get a ball park of understanding what the trade in value is of the UPS. We also provide return shipping of the unit you're trading in (at least in the US)-> http://buy.apc.com/commerce/storefronts/tradeups/tradein.aspx?storefrontcode=apcetu&countrycode=us&l...

Great, we weren't aware of the Trade-UPS program - I notice the UK is on it. Thank you for all your help, Angela!
