Unit is 5-1/2 years old, battery is weak and has never been replaced. Unit protects dual-tuner satellite receiver/DVR, DVD player and 42" (40" vis.) CRT monitor. I make note of the large CRT, because even though the load is less than 33% (only one Load LED illuminates), the Overload Indicator occasionally flickers when energizing the monitor due to the high inrush current.
Surge protection for phone line and 2 satellite coax cables has been provided by Panamax MAX 8 DBS+5, which is also 5-1/2 years old.
I had considered a J10 or J15, but:
# J Type does not output a pure sine wave as Smart-UPS does.
# J Type only offers protection for 1 satellite coax (unless other provided coax protection passes higher satellite frequencies - does anyone know?).
# J Type is not networkable as Smart-UPS is.
# Apparently APC does not (yet) offer replacement batteries for the J Type.
Since I cannot justify the expense of an S Type, which is not directly available to the consumer anyway, are there any recommendations?
