Rear-mounting infrastructure equipment

Looking for guidelines for rear-mounting my Cisco switches and any other short-length hardware with ports "in the front". Any suggestions?
We are relocating; before our infrastructure equipment was mounted in 2-post racks. I am trying to keep the front of the rack clean and stick blanking panels when rear-mounting equipment.
Particular question that I have is rear-mounting 4000, 6000 series switches on top of the rack. Do you guys leave the top rear of the rack open for easy access to the roof of the rack? Also, we have the SX AR 3100 enclosures

I did get the AR8442 http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AR8442 for the racks, plus horizontal cable management for the switches. And also utilizing overhead troughs for power and data. Hope it will work pretty well since I am minimizing the number of data cables throughout the racks, so the only thing I will have to route is power, SCSI, USB cables.

Hello,

There is no real specific guidelines for rear mounting equipment. The rack is basically reversable except for the Rear Cable Channels. Leaving room for easy roof removal would be up to you, but as long as there is plenty of room for the cables, whether the roof is on or off shouldn't entirely matter.

Do you have any means of cable management in your AR3100? How are you routing the cables?

Take a look at our cabling accessories, specifically the 1U or 2U horizontal cable brackets, because you may take the Rear Cable Channels out of operation by rear mounting your switches.

Thanks.
