Good morning.
I've had an RT8000 with 3 expansions for just over a month. Today the UPS turned on the red "FAULT" light and the third battery light. I have already tried disconnecting all the expansions and also doing a cold start, but the error always comes back, how can I understand what the problem is?
Thank you
Maurice

Please relay the error logs and captured faults proceeding, during, and after the failure.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with it, how can I download the error logs and errors detected during and after the error?
Is it possible to continue in Italian? I feel more comfortable, but if it creates difficulties, English is fine too.
A thousand thanks

Hi Maurice,
Does the unit have a NMC (Network Management Card) installed? If so you can either download the error logs or screen capture what is displayed on the screen. Worst case scenario you can just read the LCD to see the faults proceeding , during, and after, you cold start the unit.
Given the unit is so new and under warranty please do reach out to APC Technical Support. As they will know what the internal error codes are and help narrow down the root cause.
The APC forums are intended as a general resource for none critical questions. Your situation is mission critical and under APC Warranty & Support please use it. 👍
As an aside, if I was there the first steps would be to isolate the system. Meaning disconnect all expansion units.
Power down the main unit and verify proper input power. Grounding is secure and in place as required. Remove all battery cartridges and power up.
Once the unit is fully operational wait to see what the active faults are besides the missing battery cartridge. If no active faults are present insert the battery cartridge and see if a fault is declared.
If so you’ve found the problem. ☝️
If no faults / errors are seen add in one single expansion and see the results. If there is a fault when the first expansion is added this identifies and narrows down the root cause.
It goes without saying the expansion pack must be properly setup and configured. If in doubt review the installation manual. The expansion pack should also be added in a staged manner if hot swapping is a feature.
Meaning if the battery cartridge can be removed and replaced while the UPS is energized and fully operational. Then you’ll want to add the expansion pack with no battery cartridges.
You are doing this to isolate and determine if the expansion pack hardware is faulty. If no active faults are called out besides missing packs / cartridges this narrows down the problem. Again, if you add a battery cartridge into the expansion pack and the the system declares a fault you identified its a specific battery cartridge etc.
