Question re. APC Smart-UPS
Hi All,
Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question:
I'm trying to understand if the APC Smart-UPS range of UPS's, spe SHAREit cifically the APC Smart-UPS C 1500VA has the ability to remotely communicate with e.g. ESXi to prompt a safe shutdown if the power fails for X amount of minutes?
I understand there is an add in card for some units, but the one AppvnI mention about has USB and Network (sometimes serial) connectivity.. is it possible to leverage any of these ports for sending these remote messages? I can't find anything conclusive online.

Hi Vani,
The recommended way to shutdown an ESXI server is to use a UPS with an NMC and Powerchute Network Shutdown.
The NMC needs to go into a Smart Slot, I assume the unit your talking about is the SMC1500I, that unit does not have a Smart Slot so therefore can not take an NMC.
It was possible to shutdown older versions of ESXI using a serial cable and Powerchute Business Edition but this relied on the VMWare vMA which was discontinued by VMWare.
