Problems with recycling batteries, UK

Installed new SmartUPS 1000 battery, only instructions in box were 'Refer to the Web site http://www.apc.com/recycle for battery disposal facility locations.

When you go to that site, you see this:

Option 2: Replacement Battery Cartridges (RBC)

When you purchase an APC RBC, we will take back your old battery free of charge.  Just follow the instructions that accompany the new battery.

b) "If you wish to arrange for the collection and treatment of batteries; please contact the APC by Schneider Electric Customer Care Center" sounds great, but there is little information on exactly how to contact anything called the "Schneider Electric Customer Care Center."

Large companies CAN make recycling easy - check out Lexmark for example.
