I recently upgraded the firmware on my ap9606 which is installed in a SmartUps SU5000RM. It was running version 301 (I think). I uploaded version aos326b.bin via an xmodem hyperterm sesion. The update seems to have taken as it now shows "Web/SNMP Management Card AOS v3.2.6.b" on the main screen when I log in via hyperterm or telnet in over the network.
My problem is that now the ap9606 seems to no long be communicating with the ups and the web interface is no longer working.
The only option after loging in as admin are -
1- Device Manager
2- Network
3- System
4- Logout
#1 when selected shows nothing
#2 will let me setup networking, which seems to work fine except there is no web login
#3 seems to have all the normal options available for setting up different things
1- User Manager
2- Identification
3- Date/Time
4- File Transfer
5- Tools
6- About System
#4 of course logs you out.
There is no information regarding the ups status or anything else about the ups itself. so I assume the AP9606 is not able to communicate with the ups anymore since it was upgraded to aos326b.bin. I used to see all the info regarding the ups itelf before upgrading.
After reading another thread on this site it seems like there should have been a sumx326.bin to go along with the aos326b.bin? There is no sumx326.bin anywhere on the apc website that I could find. The only file listed under firmware upgrades for the ap9606 was the aos326b.bin, nothing else. No instrunction (found them in the knowlege base), upload utilites or update notes or anything like that that are available with the ap9617 update.
I am guessing the ap9606 has lost communications with the ups because the existig version of the sumx file on the ap9606 is not compatable with the aos326b.bin update? I believe the aos file is the operating system and the sumx is the application, which would explain why I no longer have a web interface...
The usual steps of braindeading the ups and reseating the ap9606 have been tried with no change.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
as far as I can tell, you can use it with your silcon.
here is the link: ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/hardware/webcard/firmware/security/v326b/
that has the AOS and the APP file for dp3e236a.
i dont have the actual release notes available for what exactly is fixed but that is the latest firmware this is supported for the AP9606. there are little bugs and fixes all of the time.
anyone looking at this, just make sure you have the AP9606 before you upgrade to this firmware.

Thank you for that link. I wonder why there seems to be no reference to it on the APC website though...
Also, to upload this, is it exactly the same procedure as for the AOS file? I used the Xmodem method via a Hyperterm session to upload the AOS file. Does it automatically know where to put each file and what they are used for? I don't want to accidently make the management card unusable by uploading the sumx file when it is expecting an aos file instead.
Oh, and while I have your attention, what version of the Powerchute software should I run for basic shutdown of the PC's attached to this ups? I only need them to be signaled to shutdown over the network when there is an extended outage. I don't need any fancy features. I did load Powerchute Network Shutdown onto one PC and that is when I found out there seemed to be an issue with it and the older firmwhere on my managment card so I didn't play with to much. Is Network Shutdown actually able to shutdown the PC it is installed on or is its purpose only for communicating to other PC's on the network?
Thanks
Craig,

I can answer one part now and the software part tomorrow when I'm not trying to shoot from the perverbial memory hip. Load the SumX via X-Modem. There are no directories within the flash of the card, so it's all stored on the "root" essentially. If there's a problem, re-flash the AOS afterwards.
I'll let you know about the software tomorrow, but PCNS 2.2.1 should work.

From the installation guide for PCNS 2.2.1. (And should be for subsequent releases of the software):
For requirements:
"An APC Network Management Card (APC part number AP9617, AP9618, or AP9619) with a firmware revision of 1.1.0 or later OR an *APC Web/SNMP Card (APC part number AP9606).*"

Thank you very much for your help. I have the firmwares succesfully updated and working now. Just need to install and configure PSNS.
APC's official tech support where of little use in helping me with this firmware upgrade. Seems 90% of all companies these days outsource their tech support to offices in India where no one actaully knows much about the products they are supposed to be supporting.
Thanks again
Craig,E

Sorry about your experience. But they are trained in the same manner that we here in the states are. They are an actual part of the APC-MGE company, not just outsourced people.
But I am official APC support...in fact, more official than they.
