Powerchute Business Edition - Confused About Setting Durations

Hi All,

I have become dreadfully confused about how I should set the durations for O/S and UPS Shutdown...

Even though I have the handy tips turned on, I still find the options less than intuitive. Please see attached screendump.

I suppose it would be easiest for me to tell you what I am looking for and then ask if you could gie me your suggestions.

My UPS tells me that it can support my load (Comuter, Monitor, Printer, Table Lamp) for 15 minutes.

I would like the load to stay up for 5 minutes before the UPS initiates an O/S Shutdown.

I would like the UPS to switch itself off, 5 minutes after the O/S Shutdown.

I would like the UPS to switch itself on as soon as the mains supply returns.

The reason I have become confused is that I encountered the following scenario today when testing my newly installed UPS.

1. I failed the mains at the wall socket.

2. I waited and watched as the UPS bleeped an alarm to indicate mains failure, The O/S did shut down a couple of minutes later as expected.

3. I reconnected the mains supply. The UPS stopped alarming and switched back to online as expected.

4. I restarted the Computer and carried on working.

5. After about 3 minutes the UPS shut itself off without warning and dropped the Computer. Yikes!

How can I stop this happening or this usual behaviour?

Is it possible to stop the UPS from shutting down once the mains has returned and the O/S is running again?

Thank you all in advance for any pointers and clues you could give me.

Jon

To add a little to what Clarkson said:

The point of the reboot cycle is to turn the computers back on (using the BIOS setting that clarkson mentioned) after they have shut down. So once the computer decides to shutdown, the UPS must reboot even if the power returns.

Ideally, the OS Shutdown delay is set to the amount of time it takes the computer to shut down, so the OS shuts down, then soon after the UPS shuts down, and then when power returns they both turn back on. That way, there's not much of a window to turn on the computer in the period after it has shut down but before the UPS has turned off.
