PowerChute web server not starting

I have installed PCNS 3.0.1 on a Windows 2000 machine.  The "PowerChute Network Shutdown Group1" service is running, but I can't connect to the web server (web browser reports can't find server).  When I run netstat, there does not appear to be anything listening on port 6547.  I cannot telnet to port 6547 on the local machine (no connection).  There is no firewall software running on this server.

I have successfuly got this working on my other 2000 and 2003 machines, it's just this one that's being a bugger.  I have tried reinstalling over the top of the existing installation, and uninstalling and reinstalling, to no avail.

Ideas?

Mine was also installed and started, I even manually stopped and restarted them, but no luck. The reboot is the only thing that did it. Why? No clue. But it's running!

Out of curiosity, you use the built-in JRE or self-installed it separately? I ask because I upgraded a Win2K box from 2.2.3 to 3.0.1 today and am having the same problem. I used the build-in JRE, but am thinking about re-installing with a third party one.

Kevin M.: I just uninstalled PCNS 3.0.1, installed Java 6 Update 27 (which is the last one that was supported for Windows 2000, and therefore the most recent that will actually install), then re-installed PCNS 3.0.1 and told it to use the one already on the system. I still get the same issue as you.

You said you had this working on a few other 2K systems? What version of JRE are you running on those?

I am using the built-in JRE.  1.4.2_06 is installed on the system, but the same version is installed on another 2000 server, and that system is working just fine.

I should mention that the service is installed, and is started on both servers.

@KEVIN: I just got it working on my system with Java 6 Update 27. I rebooted the box (which I almost NEVER do), and it started working. As trite as that sounds, give it a shot? smile

Unfortunately, the reboot didn't fix it.

Any other ideas?  I do see that the pcns.exe process is running.

Maybe the reboot did work.  I uninstalled and reinstalled again, and this time it's all working.

Thanks all for the assistance.

Hmm.... maybe the party is off. I just updated PCNS 3.01 to 3.01a on my Windows 2000 box, and now I can't get the PCNS web interface to come up. Service is started (confirmed both in Control Panel and procexp.exe). The pcns.exe file (running) has javaw.exe as a sub-process, and everything looks normal. Reboot doesn't fix.

What version are you running, Kevin M.?

The second time I did an uninstall + reinstall + patch + reboot, I got it to work. So my Windows 2000 32-bit box is now running the 3.01a version of the PCNS jar file. Looks like the reboot really is necessary, although I still can't tell why. Also, I'm using the built-in JRE that ships with PCNS 3.01.
