PowerChute software for the Mac

Does anyone know when APC will provide Leopard-compatible PowerChute software for OS X?

I'm running an Apple Mac Pro connected to an APC BackUPS RS1500, but the PowerChute Personal software simply won't work on an Intel machine (pic of error message attached). So, when will we see Intel/Leopard-compatible software from APC?

Anyone tried out APC Tracker 4.4 from Apple downloads?
Energy Saver works ok, but logging is very nice to have too.

David,

I still have not received word of any potential release of PowerChute yet. However, there was a prior thread discussing this amongst users in which there was no APC Moderator/Admin intervention, since it was a work-around:

My situation is more critical. I have several servers connected to a couple of SUA3000's. Two of the servers are Xserve G5's. One of them is running 10.4.11 and runs into a java error during PCNS setup, while the other one is running 10.5.3 and can't use PCNS at all. A definitive answer from APC on this issue would be most appreciated.

10.5 isn't supported yet by any APC Software.

And what version of java is on the 10.4 box? Have you upgraded java and tried to re-install?

Can you post a screenshot of what you see?

I don't know about everyone else but I feel as though this isn't a priority for APC especially when you consider how long Leopard has been out and the number of developers that had product on day one of its release. Sometimes I question if APC will be releasing an update at all.

Hey Kevin,

PCNS 2.2.3 supports Mac 10.5. It has been put to website for download.

You guys may already know about this, but if not, Leopard has built-in UPS support. Try attaching the UPS, go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver and then click on the UPS tab.

Just a housewife here, using two iMacs in our home. A OSX Tiger and OSX Leopard. We purchased an APC BE550G UPS because we have frequent power outages in our neighborhood. The included software CD is not compatible with our OS's.

I am certainly not a techie and wish to inquire about the advantages of downloading the proper CD software. Will our UPS complete the task of maintaining power to our computers during the 30 seconds we are without power during an outage, without installing the CD software? We have a whole-house generator which restores power in less than a minute of an outage.

Unfortunately the technical specifications that were listed for the BE550G on Amazon did not state anything about OS compatability issues.

We require a UPS for seamless power transitions because prior experience with power outages dealt our OS systems quite a blow.

Hi Jeanne,

Unfortunately with your Macintosh Operating System you could only use the built-in Native UPS software. I believe it is called the Energy Saver, with this software you can set it up to shutdown your computer once it has detected that the UPS is running on battery.

Normally, for customers who are using Microsoft based Operating System we do encourage them to utilize the APC PowerChute Personal Edition. This is the software that works with our BackUPS. PCPE software gives you the capability to see what kind of power events happened, adjust the sensitivity and transfer voltages, ability to set the Master Control features on UPSs that supports this.

Hi John,

First, is it possible for you to provide the exact model number of your UPS as well as the version of Mac that you are using? From the looks of it, it seems that you have downloaded PowerChute Network Shutdown 2.2.4, are you using a SmartUPS UPS with a network management card on it?

I've downloaded Power Chute 2.2.4 for the mac, but the install.command just opens a terminal window with no text, just a cursor. Now what?

I have a Mac running OS X 10.7 (Lion). I have an APC ES-750 UPS. I installed software that created a preference pane, but the process called comapcpowerchute (or similar) sporadically locks up my cpu. I can kill the process but it will come back after a while. I tried removing the preference pane, but that hasn't fixed the problem, the service will still run. How can I completely uninstall this?

Thanks!

Open up the .dmg (or get it from here). Run the uninstall script inside.

Many thanks! I've tried to find that but the APC download site only shows Windows versions. I ran the uninstall script, it claimed success, that should do it.
