We have a Smart-UPS 3000 RM XL with a AP9619 Network Management Card EM installed. I want to run a script from a networked computer that is triggered by an event from the UPS that will shutdown our servers. First I tried to install PowerChute Network Shutdown 2.2.1 Build 12 but the software "cannot communicate with the Management Card". I can log into the management card and it can be pinged from the computer that has PowerChute installed. The UPS is also able to send out it's self test e-mails. There is no firewall installed on the running PowerChute. Also, I have verified the username, password and pass phrase on both the UPS and in PowerChute several times.
As a test I also installed APC PowerChute Business Edition Basic on another computer to see if it could see the UPS and it could not.
Finally, we also have a Symmetra LX 16000 RM with an AP9619 Card and it is working fine with Network Shutdown.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello,
Are you using PowerChute Business Edition and Network Shutdown in conjunction? Also, if there is a Network Management Card in the UPS, then Business Edition will not operate correctly. When PowerChute Network Shutdown is installed on a box and cannot talk to the Network Management Card, 95% of the time it is because the username, password, and authentication phrase has been altered, or there is some firewall or antivirus software blocking port 3052. What OS is the PCNS client running on? If it is windows, can you run netstat -a to verify port 3052 is open and running? What is the firmware on the Network Management Card? Are you running two PowerChute Network Shutdown clients on the same computer?
Thanks.

PowerChute and Network Shutdown have not been installed on the same computer. I had installed each application on separate computers. I have now uninstalled Network Shutdown. I have tried to run PowerChute from a Windows XP workstation and a Windows 2003 R2 server. Each time while the software is installing I get:
Registering with Management Card(s)
Please wait.
Gathering Management Card addresses
Connecting to Management Card(s)
Sending registration to Management Card(s)
Verifying communication with Management Card(s) . . .
Registration Results:
192.168.1.25 communicated successfully
Click Next to continue.
(I'm not sure what is going on with this webpage but it is omitting "192.168.1.25 communicated successfullly" from below Registration Results in the message above. I can see it in the edit window but not in the post?)
The above appears to indicate that PowerChute can connect to the management card but still no joy. I have verified the username, password and changed the pass phrase on both the UPS and in PowerChute several times too.
When I run netstat –a I get the following for port 3052:
TCP computername:3052 computername.domainname:0 LISTENING
UDP computername:3052 *:*
There is no third party firewall installed on the server and the Windows firewall has been disabled. We use Sophos anti-virus. Sophos is installed on another computer running PowerChute that has no problem communication with our Symmetra LX 16000 RM. Sophos does not have any firewall/malware functionality build into it.
I’m not sure how to tell the firmware of the management card. The only reference to firmware I can find looks like it is for the UPS itself. We have a Smart-UPS 3000 RM XL with Firmware Revision 691.16.D
Thank you very much for helping me with this!

akbrew,
I'm not sure if youa re still working on geting PCNS to communicate with your network management card, but if you are, you should log into the netowrk management card and see if the powerchute software registered itself with the card. This can be verified by finding the IP address of the PowerChute client computer in teh list of PowerChute IP addresses in the UPS -> PowerChute menu of the managmenet card's interface. If you have uninstalled the software since your last try, you would have to reinstall it. If your computer's IP is not listed on the management card, you can add it manually.
If you are still having problems communicating after either verifying that the IP address is properly listed in the management card interface, or adding it manually, you might want to reset the card to its factory defaults, and try the installation again without MD5 encryption enabled on the card. If it works without MD5, try using a different phrase.
