I am currently using a APC Smart-UPS 1250 (AP1250). The management software we are using for it is the PowerChute Plus Version 4.2.2 for SCO Unix openServer. My server is an older Compaq Proliant 1600 running SCO OpenServer 5.0.5. The server takes in serial cable and not USB compatable.
The APC 1250 unit that I have is getting old and goes through battery's every 2 years and I'm not so sure that it would last much longer. I would like to replace it with another unit but as you know APC no longer supports SCO UNIX OpenServer. So I have to look for a used unit.
The APC web site recommendation as a substitute for the 1250 is the SUA1500 which is also an older discontinued unit but you can still find some clean units on ebay. The PowerChute that was included for the SUA1500 use to support SCO UNIX but I am not sure if it supported the SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 and many of the used units on the market don't include any software.
My question is, Will the SUA1500 work fine with the PowerChute Plus Version 4.2.2 for SCO Unix OpenServer? Can I just buy a used SUA1500 and plug it back in place of the old Smart-UPS 1250 that i currently have?
I really prefer not to install any other version of the PowerChute. My Unix IT guy will charge just $200.00 to come and test it.
Please give me your best advise.
Thanks for your help
Shawn

The units ships with a 2 year manufactures warranty. So you are covered for 1 more year. As for the model info, that is a known issue with older software and some SUA models. You can just ignore that.

Hi,
What serial cable are you using between the AP1250 and the server? You should be able to swap the AP1250 with an SUA with no issue. If you provide the cable info I will run a quick test next week to verify.

Hello Bill;
Thank you so much for your reply. I am very grateful for your help.
The cable number connected to the unit is 940-0024B, but I wouldn't mind purchasing another cable to make the SUA1500 work. I just want to eliminate installing new software and want to continue using the PowerCute Plus version 4.2.2.
Thanks again and looking forward to your reply soon.
Shawn

Shawn,
The cable you have will work with an SUA model UPS. I did a quick test with PC+ and an SUA750. Everything worked as expected so if you upgrade to an SUA you should not have any issues.
