I have a question - I have two APC Smart UPS 3000VA with network management card AP9630 installed on both with few servers connected to both the APC's in addition i have a TrippLite with 3 servers connected to this which does not have a network management card installed on it.
Question is is it possible to have powerchute shut down the servers on the Tripp Lite in the event of an power outage if i have powerchute network shutdown installed on those 3 servers or the do the servers have to be physically connected to the APC smart ups for powerchute to work.
Thanks
Joe-

Hey Joseph,
That's cute: APC's PCNS doing shutdown for TrippLite UPSes. It will work (no direct connection needed) with some caveats:
- Shutdown traditionally triggers off of estimated runtime remaining. The UPS with the NMC may have a different runtime from the TrippLite UPS, especially as batteries age and are replaced.
- You can also do shutdown based on time on battery. Just make sure that TrippLite can always provide enough runtime for the attached computers to wait this time and shut down. If connected to an APC UPS, this is handled by runtime-based shutdown, but you can't rely on that when the computer is not physically connected to the same UPS that PCNS talks to.
- Turning back on may not work. Ordinarily once an APC UPS knows that an attached PCNS client is going to shut down, the APC UPS will turn off the power and turn it back on, even if power has returned. This turns attached computer back on. But your computers aren't actually attached to the APC UPS.
