PowerChute Network Shutdown Client for VMware keeps detecting

Hi,

I keep getting these messages off my PCNS client 2.21 build 12 for my vmware install

The turned off UPS has switched to On Line operation
09/02/2008 18:02:43 UPS ups1 has turned off

Though the actual UPS is not turned off - I'm puzzled by these events. Nothing is stated in the the actual UPS logs, only the
false reports that the PCNS client is showing through the web interface on port 3052 on the vmware server. There are frequent events being logged.

I had a bit of a rude awakening since two of my servers suddenly shutdown when both their PCNS clients detected that both UPS units went off (false alert though).
I had the clients to shutdown on both "On Battery" alert and "Runtime Exceeded". I have since disabled these shutdown events - though this negates the reason why I'm running this software to begin with.

Anybody have an idea at what might be going on?

thank you,

DH

Hi DH,

I see you're running PCNS 221. What version VMWare are you running?
So long as the firmware on the NMC's is above 3.x you should be Ok.

Just by chance while we're still collecting data (the config.ini for the NMC is not needed in this case, so there's no need to post it here), is the serial cable for the UPS connected to either UPS to another machine, or the VMWare machine at all?

Hello DH,
Could you put the followting details here:

1) Part numbers and serial numbers of 2 UPSs and the NMCs in the UPSs, firmware revisions of the nmc.
2) How the servers and UPS are connected
3) Please add config.ini files from the nmc, data, event logs ( just copy via ftp).
4) Add logs from PCNS 2.2.1 in a file
5) Specify the version of vmware
6) Add screenshots with settings of PCNS
7) Check if you untick ( or tick) "box" in PCNS to send or not send signal UPS to turn off

Thank you in advance
