I am using an SMX1500 (with 9630) with with a Linux box running apcupsd (USB control). When AC power is removed, the linux box shuts down, commands the UPS to shut down and all goes well. However, when the power is restored, all groups come on simultaneous rather than folowing the prescribed group delay sequence. When the UPS is powered on using the front panel button, the sequence is executed. I need the sequence to be obeyed no matter how the UPS is comes back on. Is there a configuration that needs to be set to make this so.

These UPSes have the capability of rebooting with or without on delays. I think the NMC always uses them by default, so using an NMC and PCNET may be enough. It's interesting that the UPS' USB or Modbus implementation differs. Or maybe that's just what APCUPSd commands.
*edit* Nevermind, I missed the question of whether the on delay happens before or after waiting for AC. I talked with one UPS engineer who seems to think as long as the reboot has been commanded with on delays, the delays happen after waiting for AC.

Brian,
It looks like APCUPSD is telling the SMX to reboot. After the power off delay is honored the power on delay immediately starts a countdown and the outlet groups all start up when AC is restored. I checked the APCUPSD Mail List and did not see a similar listing. I suggest you post this issue there. It would not surprise me if one of the group members has seen this and found a work around.
A work around that should work if your UPS has a Network Management Card (NMC) is you can set APCUPSD up with pcnet communication. Disable KillDelay in APCUPSD and configure start up / shut down using the NMC outlet group controls.
