Hello everyone -- thanks in advance for your comments and advice.
I purchased an AP9617 Network Management Card for my single-phase Symmetra system to replace the older AP9606 model. (I've not had good reliability from the AP9606's despite several replacements and troubleshooting.)
In accordance with the install guide, I popped out the old board, and installed the new one. The APC "Configure IP" wizard found the AP9617 on my LAN and let me configure it statically. The web GUI works great and I was able to configure all kinds of things on the card successfully. It even saw the "MeasureUPS II" environmental monitor card and provided readouts, which I could never get the AP9606 to do, oddly. Things looked great until I hit the "UPS" tab, and all I get is "Lost communication to the UPS" on all UPS sections.
The card is installed exactly as described on page 3 of the "multiple management cards" [install guide|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QFC_R0_EN.pdf]. Note, I'm not using any other management card or expansion chassis. Slots 2 and 3 are empty, The AP9617 is occupying the slot where the AP9606 was living.
I decided to reboot the UPS; I put it in maintenance bypass and used System Enable to power off the unit, waited 30 seconds or so, and powered back on. No change.
Then I figured I'd read the [release notes|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QFA_R0_EN.pdf] more carefully. There are multiple firmware .BIN files listed, according to what product the management card is used with. Sounds kind of interesting.
Wanting to see more, I used telnet to log into the card. According to the manual, the line below "Environment:" should list the UPS model. Here, it says "A UPS was found that is not supported by this application." I took a snapshot. Also note the two top lines, at right, where the application doesn't read Symmetra, and firmware on both is 3.5.5. !http://lunatiq.org/images/apc_telnet_shows_unsupported_ups.jpg
I checked available firmware on APC's download page, and for AP9617 firmware for Symmetra, the app version is 3.3.1 and AOS 3.3.4, which are obviously older.
My theory is that I need to downgrade this brand new AP9617 in order to gain Symmetra support. Can anyone confirm this? I'm still waiting for a tech support callback ๐

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post a response in case others are seeking the same answer: the older firmware was, indeed, the solution. After loading the firmware indicated in your response, the card came right up and all functions were available. It is still operating smoothly to this day.

Thank you for your update on this. We have a very similar situation. I have searched APC Firmware through APC and the only version available for download is the 3.9.3. Where were you able to get the older version of Firmware.?

I have a question. Why are you using an AP9617? Those have been EOL for years now.
Also APC uses 2 different firmwares. One for Symmetra marked with SY in the name and one for the rest of their gear. If you do not use the right firmware then it will not work. So with all due respect when you say you upgraded did you use the right firmware?
