We want the UPS to notify us thru SMS when our server room encounter any power trip.
We have sign up for a email-to-sms service so that any email send to this email address will get forwarded to all our mobile phones as SMS.
However, the APC email notification contain too many junk codes such that the 160 characters limits in the sms is insufficient to receive the actual message:
This is a multipart message in MIME format.+
----TRECK-MIME-MULTIPART-BOUNDARY+
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8;+
Content-Transfer-Encoding:
This is a test of the E-mail client.
Is it possible to disabel multipart message in MIME format so that the sms only show the main content itself?

hello again,
unfortunately, i confirmed we are stuck with what options you see now that apparently don't work well. i just did enter this as an enhancement request so we can introduce a plain text option. so from there, it will be reviewed and prioritized and hopefully completed in one of the future firmware releases. it won't make the next one most likely (at the end of this year/early 2013) but hopefully the subsequent one - can't promise that just yet though.

My AOS is v5.1.3.
Yes, I have used short. But since the MIME code was over 160 characters long and it get shown first, whether long or short doesn't matter because it never had a chance to show up! 😞

The message is exactly the same after the upgrade. The sms alert support told me that APC email notification need to be in plain text, not MIME format.

we have addressed this in AOS version 5.1.7 and higher I believe. 5.1.7 for several apps is available on our website with more on their way.
edit - let me clarify - the junk codes were fixed where as the encoding should be correct now as to not be discarded by certain mail servers i.e. mailmarshal.
as far as the character limit, i assume you already changed the email format to short versus the default of long?
what is the firmware version on your NMC?

can you try updating to the latest and see if you still see all that garbage. i have a feeling AOS 5.1.7 won't show all that garbage anymore since we saw issues with incorrectly formatted email headers.
today, we have AOS 5.1.7 available with sumx application and sy3p and I think sy application. which application are you using with that AOS?
you can get downloads here: http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm once you've identified your application.

I have upgraded to v5.1.7 but the sms received still show multipart message in MIME format. Is there any other way to amend the email notification not to use multipart message in MIME format?

unfortunately the only options email format wise are the short/long.
does 5.1.7 look exactly the same as what you pasted from the 5.1.3 message? if so, I can try to investigate further for addressing in in the future at least.
i basically want to show the developers what you get in a text message. i also didn't know if its an option with your SMS to turn in long SMS message to an MMS.
