New Smart-UPS 1000 SKUSMC1000IC New firmware needed as configuration not accessible

Firmware RevisionUPS 02.0 / COM 02.0 (1061 - 1)
I am reasonably tech savvy and finding this new UPS very frustrating: I am surprised that absolute basics like what the 3 buttons do on the front panel do not agree with my manual. Maybe this is me being daft /?

The buttons on the UPS do not agree with my manual, I cannot seem to enter configuration mode.
Pressing the status enquiry button doesn't do much,  I expected the LCD to illuminate.
Pressing it with the Mute for a while doesn't seem to enter configuration mode; all I get is UPd on the LCD.
Otherwise the UPS is working, except that UPS Communication is intermittent on USB to my Win 11 PC.

The info from the PowerChute software about menu doesn't explicitly state the ID value.

I downloaded and ran FUW and it confirms an update is available. I have looked in the table https://www.se.com/uk/en/faqs/FA279197/ but haven't downloaded any firmware files.
The FUW software seems to come with a set of files and the wizard is selecting SMC1061UPS_02-0.enc.
At this point I have stopped as I need some confidence I am doing this correctly.

Can someone please help.

I have appended the user manual for you here which calls out how to enter the configuration mode on page 11:

https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_enDocType=User+guide&p_File_Name=SU_UM_990-5444E_MN0...

UPS Firmware: Based on the information you have provided I’m not sure if the first line in your statement indicates you’re already on v2.0 firmware?!?

If so, there is no reason to update the (UPS) firmware as this process is extremely dangerous if all prerequisites and instructions are not followed.

Firmware should only be done while (in warranty) to address bugs, security, or feature enhancements ~ live over the phone with APC Technical Support.

The FUW will always present you with the correct UPS firmware. There is no reason to download any individual files unless instructed to do so or you have experience and knowledge as to why.

The SMC is the entry level and stripped down hardware version in the Smart-UPS Series. As such there aren’t very many extra features via the LCD Menu.

The Configuration Mode Simply allows you to enable / disable options and features not defaulted by the manufacturer.

Key important features are the battery replacement, Smart Connect Remote Commands, Firmware Update, Green Mode, LCD Energy Save.

I can confirm:

  • I have not done any firmware upgrade and the current revision, as supplied new last week, is UPS 02.0 / COM 02.0 (1061 - 1)

  • The only reason I am looking into this is because when I use the front panel buttons they clearly do  not operate as per the manual I originally found (EN 990-4493F 06/2022) and your referenced manual (EN 990-5444E 10/2023).
  • The mute button doesn't work; I can achieve this via the PowerChute software
  • I cannot enter configuration mode, all I get is 'UPd' displayed, which seems to indicate upgrade in progress.
  • The menu button does nothing, no menus and it doesnt turn the LCD backlight on.
  • I can only get the LCD backlight on by pressing the power button.

When looking into the actions required to do firmware upgrade, one of the key things is checking the ID value, however, the info from the PowerChute software about menu doesn't explicitly state the ID value.

Still looking for help.
