I have a Smart UPS 1500 (SKU: SMT1500RMI2U) with software revision UPS 09.3 (ID18) that is fitted with an UPS Network Management Card 2 AP9631 with hardware revision 08 and version v6.50 for OS and application module (v1.0.8 for boot module).
It is reporting the following alarm:
Local-Management-To_NMC Integrated EM Sensor Communication Lost: Universal I/O at Port 1
Alarm status for Port 1 is "Lost Communication"
The alarm first came repeatedly every minute or so (alarm then clearing a second or so later) but is now constant (after trying to reset alarm).
I have rebooted management interface several times and reset everything except TCP/IP (UPS is in a remote and difficult to get to location) but fault persists.
Should I just replace the AP9631 Network Management Card? Is the temperature sensor built into this card rather than the UPS itself? Due to the difficulty in getting to site I would only want to go there once if the problem cannot be resolved remotely.

Based on the information you have provided it sounds like you have a AP9335T (Temperature Sensor) attached to the NMC 2 I/O port 1. Log into the NMC and choose *Status* -> Universal I/O -> to confirm the AP9335 is present and displaying temperature values. If nothing is present the sensor is either defective, unplugged, or the NMC needs to be rebooted and those steps are outlined below.
You should review the logs that are captured by the NMC system to determine the time and frequency of the fault also to gain insight as to the problem.
Once known, and If you have remote access to the NMC 2 Web Console you can select *Control* -> Network -> Reset / Reboot -> Reboot Management Interface. Once the NMC reboots verify the AP9335 does appear in the Status tab and temperature is being displayed. If the sensor isn't displayed under the Status tab you'll need to ask someone to unplug, clean the RJ45, and reinsert the connector. The NMC will need to be rebooted again to allow the AP9335 to be properly seen and to clear any faults.
If on the other hand if remotely rebooting the NMC solves the problem - You Win. But, if the problem comes back you'll need to go on site or have someone unplug the sensor, clean, and reinsert / replace.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried rebooting the NMC but to no avail - the fault is still present. There is no external AP9335 connected as far as I'm aware - the error reports "Local Management-To_NMC Integrated EM Sensor Communication Lost: Universal I/O at Port 1" - does that mean there is an integrated sensor in the card? Or is there really an external sensor plugged in?
