Need UPS

I need a UPS.
1. 230VAC IN/OUT (or 480VAC Input and 230VAC Output) single phase 50/60 HZ.
2. 5-6KVA
3. Hardwire In/Out preffered (will have 3-4 devices on output side)
4. Always on condition (not switch-over due to possible time lag in switch over)
5. Full Power conditioning on output
6. Relay card for I/O control of UPS for Power On/Off, Battery condition, notification of loss of incoming power, and maybe control of Alarm horn (to keep Alarm horn from draining battery on loss of incoming power).
7. USB or Ethernet comm. for Email and/or Web monitoring of ups condition

How about it?

Model number and manual for review.

The instrumentation that I am controlling is from France, that is why I have the 230VAC load. But I have a 5kva transformer doing the 480 to 230 conversion, that is why I was interested in the UPS with a 480 input and a 240 output and it would be nic if the output was hardwired 240/120. Then I can also supply a 120V control circuit that is on a different UPS in the same cabinet.

Hello,

How about this:

SURT6000XLI (SmartUPS RT 6000 KVA)
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SURT6000XLI&total_watts=50

SURT007 (SmartUPS RT hardwire kit...it says 3000/5000, but it also works on the 6k)
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SURT007

AP9610 (Relay I/O card)
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9610

The unit comes with an on board network card (AP9619). The issue is the unit only has one slot, so you have two options to incorporate the relay card:
1. Remove the Network card and use USB connectivity to a server and PowerChute Business Edition for email notifications.
2. Purchase the AP9600 Smartslot expansion chassis. It connects to the UPS via serial cable and gives you the extra slot so that you can use the network card for email notification and also the relay card

You could also go to the higher end option in our Symmetra line:

SYA8K8I (8kva, modular double conversion online)
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SYA8K8I&total_watts=500

AP9610 Relay I/O card

This unit also has the AP9619 network card and and extra slot (for the relay card). It is hardwired in and out.

Looks just like what I need.

"The unit comes with an on board network card (AP9619). The issue is the unit only has one slot, so you have two options to incorporate the relay card:"
I guess this means the only slot is ued by the Network card.

Good Idea about using the USB though. The Relay I/O card is necessary.

Does the URT6000XL have an alarm that beeps when it looses input power? Can this alarm be disabled?
Sometimes I will have output power switched off for days and if I loose input power I don't want the alarm to drain the battery. This is what I suffer from with the individual 1.5KVA Smart-UPS or Back-UPS units I am now using.

They are in a locked control cabinet, so it is not convenient to shut them down when not in use.
I can see the UPS because the control cabinet has a windowed door, so if the UPS has a good LCD information display on front that is a plus.

Same alarm concerns if I decide to go with the Symmetra LX 8kVA.
This unit appears to have the AP9619 installed and still has a spare smart slot for the AP9610.
This one looks like it will deliver 240VAC output on a 480VAC input. Is that true statement?

Thanks,
Great knowledgeable response.
Better and Easier than a phne call.

Regarding the configuration of the AP9610 Relay I/O card.
What is the difference in "Turn the UPS off." and "Turn the UPS off gracefully" input commands?

To answer your questions:

Yes, the SURT6000 only has the one slot, which the network card is in.
Both units have an audible alarm when the power is lost which can be disabled on both units if you wish.

Before commenting about the voltages, I think I might've erred on my first assumption - you mentioned 230v so I assumed you were going to use this outside of the U.S. Looking at your profile it appears you are in California? If this is a domestic application, you do not want the i sku. The i in the sku means international.

SYA8K8P
SURT6000XLT

The Symmetra unit can do 208 or 240 on the output but generally it is a good idea to match the input so that if the unit goes to bypass, you don't end up bypassing a different voltage.

Your last question on the AP9610 - A graceful shutdown has the UPS go through its normal shutdown routine that includes signaling PowerChute clients on servers to gracefully shutdown. A regular UPS turn off does that - just turns the UPS off.
