Hello, I have a Smart UPS 2200. We just installed an interface expander card to the unit. I have 3 servers hooked up to the unit right now. For some reason, when I log into my powerchute business edition console, I can only detect two of the three servers hooked up to the UPS. When I try to add the discovered servers to the device list, I get an error about failing to apply the configuration profile. The third server isn't even discovered so I haven't the slightest idea on how I can add this to the device list. I have the servers interfaced to the UPS via 9 pin serial cables that came with the expansion card. They have a 9 pin female on one end and 9 pin mail on the other end. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the agent service is running on the server. I even restarted the service. Didn't make any difference.

I can send via FTP link, CD, or depending on E-Mail depending on the service/client.

Hi,
I'd highly suggest upgrading to 7.0.5. You still may be able to procure this version from one of the helpful APC employees on this board, particularly Erasmus might be able to help.

Well, I think I may have fouled this up. I know atleast two of the servers are using the simple cables - atleast they are the cables that came with the expansion card so I assume they are simple. The other server I think is using one of the cables that was being used on a master port on an APC SMART-UPS 1000. What I'd like to do is to troubleshoot each server individually. I do have one server that is plugged in to the expansion interface card with a cable that came with the card. This server is also running an agent. However, this server isn't even detected by the console. Is there a way to manually add it to the console? I thought I read somewhere about how the simple connected servers aren't automatically detected.

You can manually configure discovery for a certain IP segment, but there is no way to manually add a device in if the server cannot verify communication with a working PCBE agent. On this server that is not detected by the server/console, can you try accessing the loopback address via a browser (http://127.0.0.1:3052) to get a direct web interface to our PCBE agent? Also verify that you can access the PCBE agent from the computer that is running the PCBE server/console by bringing up the IP of the "trouble" server in a web browser (http://
There should be 940-0020B/C cables going from the interface expander basic ports to the two computers connected, and the advanced port on the UPS itself should have a 940-0024C/D cable going to the main computer running the server/console.

The AP9607 Interface Expander is meant to be used with simple signaling cables on the basic ports. Can you tell us which cables (exact part numbers) are being used on which ports? Also, what version of PowerChute B.E. (PCBE) are you using? Also, is there a PCBE agent installed on each of the servers in your configuration? Any antivirus software running?

I don't recall what the part numbers were on the signaling cables - however these cables came with the expansion card so I assume they are the correct cables to be using with the expansion card. As for the version of Powerchute - Powerchute Business Edition Basic Server Edition, version 7.0.4, build 114. Yes, the agents are installed on the other servers. Yes, Symantec Antivirus version 9 is running on the servers.

I would try swapping the basic signaling cables around to see if the problem follows a cable.
Out of curiosity which of the servers is not communicating with PCBE? Is it one of the ones on a basic cable or the ones working on the advanced port of the UPS? Clarifying cable part numbers would help the troubleshooting process immensely, if you could confirm them.

I would also advice taking any anti-virus or internet security suite software out of the picture.

If I went to one of the PC's that isn't being detected and did a loopback (http://127.0.0.1:3052), I do get an APC login screen. However, if I got to the PC that has Business Edition installed on it, and try doing a loopback or try access any of the other servers, I just get a blank page. No error messages, just a blank, white page.

Can you verify that the PBE agent is running on each of the servers? You can verify this by accessing services.msc under the "Run" option from your start bar.
