Hello all,
I have a Matrix 5000 with a SmartCell XR, the one with the 4 big car style batteries in it.
I had a "battery needs replacing" signal on the controller just after replacing the batteries. I read in a forum somewhere that I could jump a few pins on the communication board on the smartcell. Well, it worked until I had to put it back into the cabinet. While turning the SmartCell XR battery comm card over, it touched the metal case and I could smell burnt electronics, and it stopped working.
Now, I am looking for that communications card and can't seem to find it anywhere. Anyone have a clue where I might be able to find one of those cards?
Tom

The "jumper the pins" procedure wasn't necessary on the Smartcell XR - it has an externally accessible reset button. APC seems to have removed the knowledge base article with the instructions, but Google has it (temporarily) cached here.
As for obtaining a new communication card, you're going to have to look on the used market - the Matrix models have been out of production for many years, and APC says they no longer have the components to build the Smartcell (reference).
Hopefully the damage is limited to that one communication card - depending on what happened when you shorted it out, it could have damaged the communication cards in other Smartcells or the electronics module of the UPS.
