MGE UPS Galaxy PW_Software for UPS parameterization

Hi,

I was wandering if there is a software to do a UPS Galaxy PW parameterisation?

And if there is a one, how to get connected to the UPS?

There is one way to personalise (not parameterize, which isn't even a word) a Galaxy PW, using the tuner software and the correct type of communication cable. Both of these tools are only available to trained and experienced APC UPS technicians and can only be conducted by these technicians on your site. You will have to engage your local APC service provider and pay for an attendance to conduct the personalisation. Why are you trying to personalise a UPS yourself anyway? What exactly are you trying to adjust or change in the unit, it should be personalised to your requirements from its original install date regardless. Conducting any changes to personalisation yourself, without experience and/or following correct procedures can result in the unit catastrophically failing (or worst case exploding).

There is a profibus connection made between Master PLC and Jbus\Modebus communucation card of the UPS. We need to outline some UPS statuses on an operator PC screen. Therefore, I though that getting connected to the UPS via the software would help to solve the matter, e.g. identify adresses, or whatever it can help in.

AAhhh ok, i understand what youre trying to do now. You can connect directly to the modbus card utilising a pc or laptop with a terminal port (obviously) and terminal program. You need a rs232 serial cable and you need to varify that the dip switches on the modbus card (labelled SA1) are all set to the on position and the rs242/485 jumper on the card is shorted to rs232. To connect to the card use the settings 9600 baud rate, even parity, 1 stop bit and 7 data bits, without flow control.

Hold down the reset button (recessed on the modbus card connection plate) for 3 seconds, diagnostic led should blink every few seconds if successful. This should give you a prompt screen on your pc / laptop displaying CDE>. Enter the following prompts for your desired configuration - L (current parameters), V (baud rate settings), P (parity settings), E (slave number setting), M (echo mode.)Through this connection you are able to access simple real time measurements and unit statuses in the form of tables. Both the modbus card and the UPS (galaxy pw) are primitive and simple, but at least will give you a good idea of voltages, current draw, battery life etc.

I was under the impression you were attempting to re- personalise (re-program / configure) the unit's operational settings, which is reserved to only be conducted by appropriate MGE / APC representatives. There is no software requirede for the modbus card to operate, you just need a telnet program and serial connection on a computer to connect, and you can either monitor from there or connect to a bms system. For more conclusive and user friendly monitoring of your unit, i reccommend an snmp card with network based monitoring and access (part no 66244)

The real truth is that many of the manufacturers have the software set as proprietary which forces you to use their service for anything as simple as resetting the battery install date after replacing your batteries. The only thing you can do is not buy their equipment to start with if you don't want to be forced to pay their price to use their service.

we are in this situation today, as the only local certified APC provider had left a project we need to handover to  a client, and we can not do any configuration to the UPS even as simple as shutting down the unites as this is disabled!.
