Hello there,
I just bought a couple of used PDUs off of eBay but they didn't give me the cable nor the CD-ROM. Is there a way to reset the password without either?
From the looks I had at the documentation, the setup software along with the reset button should be enough, but I can't find the software to download. I'll buy the serial cable if I need to.

It is an AP7921. From the procedure you are pointing to, it looks like the serial cable is a must have...
Thanks.

yes it is..940-0144A is what you need..we don't sell it unfortunately so you will need to contact tech support to see what they can work out for you assuming you tried the default username and password of apc/apc

The problem I'm having is that I don't even see either units on my network. What I've done so far:
1. Plug the unit (power and network)
2. hit reset twice
3. And then.... I don't know which IP the unit has, "arp -a" doesn't show it anywhere on my network
So basically, I can't even try the default uname/password since I can't even connect to the unit !

Using the Control Button of the PDU, if it is configured with an IP you can press and hold it for around 5 seconds and it will show the IP on the LCD. It is outlined on the User Manual which can be seen here. I think it was page 11 of 28 on the PDF manual.

Ok, here I am again.
I've got a cable labelled 940-0144A. I plug it on one end to my serial port, on the other end to my AP7921 (which is powered on). I launch HyperTerminal, set it to 2400/8/None/1/None, and press enter. Nothing happens. I can press enter 1000 times, nothing happens.
I tried to launch PortMon, which cannot connect to COM1 since it is in use. I then closed HyperTerminal and connected it to COM1. I start HyperTerminal again and the same happens. I see stuff in the PortMon app whenever I press enter.
I have only 1 COM port on my machine, so I guess this is not the problem. I unfortunately have only one machine with a serial port.
I am sure I am missing something obvious there but I can't put my finger on it.

Hi pieroxy,
You should be using 9600 for the baud rate instead of 2400. Gen1 and Gen2 PDUs uses 9600 baud rate. Below is the APC Knowledgebase that would give you an idea on how to reset a password on our NMC.
