Linux Powerchute Agent functionality vs Windows console

I have installed the agent on a linux server and the console on a windows 2003 server. I have configured both and
all seems well at the moment, though I'm unsure if I have setup things correctly to accomplish my goals.

In particular, I don't really understand the functionality between the two components. Which component (agent or console) should
I configure? The agent's start web page warns about using both but the agent settings seem more detailed than those
on the console.

I have two 3000 ups and 7 or so servers connected to them. I plan on installing another agent on another server, then using a
single script to shut down all the servers upon the appropriate events. As a power outage will trigger the shutdown script twice, I'll
need a locking mechanism to prevent dual executions of the script. Sound reasonable? Any gotcha's with this approach?

Thanks for the reply. Yep, a power outage would cause both server/agent combinations to cause the script to fire. Other issues,
like maybe a bad ups, would only cause the script to be called once. I've written the script already so no help needed there.

We use HP's Onboard Administration and through that we can programmatically shut down each server (blade).

The +"agent"+ is the actual client that runs on an individual server and interfaces with the UPS and does the shut down of that server. The agent can be installed or UNIX/Windows systems, etc. The +"server"+ portion of the software is only installed on Windows systems and monitors all the agents and allows the "console" application to access/report on each agent. The +"console"+ is installed on a Windows system (usually the same system as the server) and gives an easy to use GUI for accessing the PCBE server that controls/reports the PCBE agents.

You can control almost anything you need on a PCBE agent using the console application. The only setting you may want to dig into to change on the agent is the "low battery signal time" which controls how the UPS interprets it's own low battery threshold. All the other settings are shared between the console/agent, since in reality you are accessing the agents through the console.

I assume you mean the power outage is triggering the script twice...once for each server? I don't see any problem with the setup you have described, but APC cannot help in the creation or execution of command scripts.
