KVM IP Solutions Questions

I searched these forums for KVM info, but I didn't find any topics related to it.

I looked at the APC KVM units that are available on the APC website at
http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=319

I'm looking for a KVM IP device that provides remote access where I would either A). install software or go to the B). web interface by using my browser from a computer (from a different location from where the KVM device is).

Here's what I need. I device that will connect to 15 servers (or thereabouts). And users can login with their username/password to connect to their own server. I want to have 15 username/password users, 15 servers it is connected to, and all 15 of those users be able to connect concurrently (all at the same time).

But from what I've seen, KVM devices only usually support 2 to 4 concurrent users at one time. But they do allow 15 user/pass accounts and be connected to 15 servers. I'm not sure about APC though.

I also have no need for a local console. Since all I am needing are remote KVM (by web browser or software on a user computer).

Hello,

The AP5405 provides web access to your KVM and allows you to connect to servers over IP.

Here are the number of concurrent users:

2 Analog + 4 RDP (In-Band)
or:
1 Analog + 1 IP + 4 RDP
or:
2 IP + 4 RDP

You can either set the 15 users' username/passwords on the KVM itself, or you can set the KVM for RADIUS, LDAP, or any other of the supported authentication protocols.

The APC IP KVM's can also be daisychained if you ever add more servers (you can still access all servers from one IP). You can also connect the Switched Rack PDU's (AP79xx only) to the IP KVMs via the AP9317 cable and have the ability to reboot PDU outlets, through the KVM.

Hope this helps.

Please explain more about what is meant by these terms given below such as "analog" and "RDP" and "In-Band". Thanks.

2 Analog + 4 RDP (In-Band)
1 Analog + 1 IP + 4 RDP
2 IP + 4 RDP

Also, will analog KVM devices such as the
AP5401
AP5202
AP5206
AP5456
work also for what I am wanting (IP KVM)?

What is the real differences between analog KVM and digital KVM?

Analog would be a local user , someone who connects to the KVM through the local osd, not the web interface. IP users are users who connect to the KVM over IP (web browser) and then connect to the servers direct. RDP is a user who connects to the KVM over IP, and then connect to the servers through an RDP connection.

Also, will analog KVM devices such as the
AP5401 web access to the KVM but no connection to the servers
AP5202 analog only, no ip
AP5206 web access, this sku is basically an ap5202 plus ap5456
AP5456 this product is an add on, you connect this to an analog kvm to make it accessible over IP
work also for what I am wanting (IP KVM)?

What is the real differences between analog KVM and digital KVM? Difference is analog is local access through a local keyboard/monitor/mouse, digital is the kvm is accessible over IP, as well as the servers that are connected to the KVM

I am looking at putting my PC in one room, and my monitor (1920x1200), Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, (maybe USB 2.0) in another room.

I have 3 cat5e cables from my back room to PC monitor location.

Most of the KVM switches I see do a local PC and a remote PC. I do not need it to do a local PC location, just the above mentioned connections to 1 monitor location

Any suggestions?

Thanks
