I have a new BX1500M ups that I use to supply power to one desktop computer and a small server. When I boot the desktop (where powerchute resides) I usually get a windows 10 notification indicating that I need to reboot to complete the UPS installation. The desktop is connected to the UPS on a USB 2.0 port directly connected to the desktop (not via an external hub).
Powercute is working, it can communicate with the UPS and all appears just fine. Looking in device manager the APC UPS is listed but the description contains:
This device is working properly.
You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.
No matter what I do or how many times I reboot, I can't seem to get this error condition to go away.
Feature request / suggestion:
Why do none of these personal UPS software packages include an option on power failure shutdown to execute a command or script just prior to shutting down the computer? My UPS is not network aware and I would really like to issue a "shutdown.exe -m \\server -s -t 15" command before the desktop powers down.
I will have to see if I can accomplish the same thing using the group policy editor. It seems like this is pretty basic functionality that would be a big benefit to users with more than one system plugged into a given UPS.

Thx Bill. The external shutdown command util you referenced seems to do the trick.
No luck with resolving the error message issue with Microsoft fix but I will keep trying.

Hi,
If the system is reporting an issue issue with the install try running Microsoft Fix.
See this thread for running command files with PCPE.
