I thought this information may be helpful to those of you having difficulties connecting an Intel Macintosh running OS 10.5.x (Leopard) to an APC-UPS. I was attempting to connect a MacMini to an APC Back UPS ES350R and I was unable to locate a version of PowerChute that supports OS10.5. When I installed the Intel based version, PowerChutePE_v1.3.4 (OS10.3.9-10.4.1) the system wouldn’t shutdown on battery backup. The solution I came up with to correct this problem was to install then immediately uninstall PowerChutePE_v1.3.4 and then configuring the device through Apple's build-in UPS support. By uninstalling PowerChutePE_v1.3.4 with the APC provided utility, uninstall_pcpe.command I removed the conflicting software but the USB driver remained allowing me to access the device through Apple’s build-in UPS support software.
APC-UPS 10.5 fix
1. Install then uninstall PowerChutePE_v1.3.4
2. Configure Apple’s build-in UPS support:
System Preferences > Energy Saver > Settings For: UPS
Good luck!

If Only I could at least have the problem of Seeing the UPS settings which should be available in the Energy Saver Panel.... alas, I get no UPS option.
Here is a copy of what I wrote to Support (a rather difficult process as well)
I am aware that there is not a Powerchute version available for Mac OS Leopard ... so I have been using the Energy Saver Panel... all was working fine. I suppose the problem started when I upgraded to 10.5.7 (or .6) The Energy Saver Panel does not show the UPS settings menu choice at all.
I have checked the USB connection and I can see the Back-UPS ES 750 USB connection in the System Profiler.
Just to check I also re-installed PowerChute (latest version)... which then gives me a dialog "No UPS device could be found..." something like that. Again... my Mac is reading the USB port connection to the UPS.... see System Profiler Info below...
I have since used the Uninstall script to remove PowerChute but am still having problems with the UPS not showing up in the Energy Saver Panel.
Thanks for your help.
Terry
