I understand InRow RCs are grouped together by hot aisle. I have seen a situation where they were added to an existing installation where 4 InRow RCs were added to a common cold aisle. Two in one row are grouped and two in the facing row are grouped. What seems to be the issue is that occasionally the two on one side dump cold air onto the rack inlet temperature probe on the other side. This causes the one side to function near capacity while two on the other side are nearly idling (fan speed wise). Is there a disadvantage to grouping all four together around the common cold aisle? The intention would be they work together to maintain a common rack inlet temperature. It is not an option to spin the racks to make 2 rows with a common hot aisle.

We recommend grouping and sharing the common hot aisle, not cold aisle, as the units were designed to work with a hot aisle. Using the hot aisle allows the units to efficiently make use of their full cooling capacity. If you cannot turn them and group them with a common hot aisle, then grouping four together will keep from having two run idle.
