ISX PDU OID requirements

I have got an ISX PDU that appears to have the latest xpdu image (v331) on its management card. I had a look through the PowerNet MIB and found an interesting OID...

.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.15.4.2.3.1.5
...enterprises.apc.products.hardware.xPDU.xPDUCircuitBreakers.xPDUBranchBreakers.xPDUBranchBreakerTable.xPDUBranchBreakerEntry.xPDUBranchBreakerCurrent

Which suggests it is a measurement of current drawn over each circuit.... however when polled on the device the results are all "-1", and as indicated in the MIB this is because the data is 'not available'.

the following specs may be reliant:

ISX PDU
Model: 0M-5402
Revision: B2
44 breakers installed.

Does anyone know what the requirements are to enable this monitoring? Hardware upgrade? software upgrade to intelligence module ('brain can'?) or a separate product?

Shaynes,

You need to have the Branch Circuit Monitoring option installed in your PDU to enable current measurement on each breaker.
Generally this is configured on the initial design and installed at the factory. It's probably possible to install after the fact, but it's certainly going to require a shutdown.

Is this something that can be installed by a fairly proficient end user, or does it require an APC engineer with part P certification etc?

Shaynes,

I don't know all the steps for installing and configuring the Branch Circuit Monitoring option. Essentially what you get is a series of toroid current transformers that mount such that the circuit conductor passes through the transformer before it enters the breaker. Each set of 21 transformers has a sensing board that feeds into the intelligence module. (4 boards, one for each side of each distribution panel). I suspect the intelligence module needs to be configured to tell it that it now has the Branch Circuit Monitoring option. I don't know how to do this, or even if it's needed.
