Hello All
We have a Dell PowerEdge T620 server running with 2 redundant power supplies as a Hyper V server .A single APC SmartUPS 3000 with outlet groups and APC 9331 NMC will be powering the server.
We will be using PCNS to communicate between the server and NMC/UPS
What is the best method to connect the PSU s to the UPS?One PUS per outlet group or both PSU s to the same outlet group?
Thanks
Dhanushka

This might help better explain Main Outlet Group and Switched outlet groups-> http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/NWHG-8ACJSR/NWHG-8ACJSR_R0_EN.pdf

Well, if you connect it to the same UPS, they won't really be redundant fully, only if one physically fails will having two benefit you, rather than having them connected to separate power inputs too. I can't think of a benefit of plugging them into different outlet groups, especially if you will be shutting down other equipment and using load shedding/different delays between the outlet groups.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I understand that having 2 PSU s in a single UPS is not going do much good during a power outage.
What I wanted to know is what is the best practice (especially with PCNS being used to shutdown the server) and based on what you say it appears the best is to connect both to a single group to avoid the mentioned pitfalls.

One more question what is the difference between main ups outlet and the outlets labeled as group1 ? Are both of these outlets groups? using NMC I can modify the same parameters for both and perform similar actions on both so is there any difference?
