How to configure and verify the PowerChute Business Agent?

Three systems and using Business Edition Basic 7.0.5. Some systems on WinXP and one on Win Vista x64. They all run agents, and Vista x64 is running server.

Two of the systems work properly. The agent on one system will not respond to Configure Device List however. "Failed to apply the configuration profile to ". I've checked all the Knowledge base issues, but I can't figure out how to confirm that the agent is talking with the UPS.

The server and console are running on that system as well. The connection is via a USB serial converter to a SmartUPS 1500. I have confirmed that the USB serial line is working and is on COM6. I have restarted the agent on this machine.

I see in the system event log that "Communication not established." errors are occuring. So the COM port has probably changed, as is wont to do when the USB device is plugged into another port.

I don't know how to change the COM port the agent uses and confirm that the agent is talking to COM6 or that it has found the UPS device.

How do we talk to the agent directly to see that it is configured properly?

Thanks,
Windy

Windy, could you please tell us the exact model number of the UPS? You can find the exact model number of the unit on a white bar code sticker at the rear of the unit. Is the USB-Serial converter cable came with the UPS? What is the Operating System of the Computer which is connected to the UPS in question?

Hello, windyweather
"but I can't figure out how to confirm that the agent is talking with the UPS." =

To check this, try loging the agent via 3052 port.

For eg. open web-browaer and type in the address: 127.0.0.1:3052, then press Enter and
then you should see login fields.
Please note that the computer with agent has to have Java ( at least 1.4.2 - www.sun.com)
