Hi,
I have 30 UPSs installed in various secure remote locations. Three weeks ago I changed the password for the apc account to something more secure on all 30 UPSs. I made note of the new non-trivial password in our password database which has since become corrupt. I cannot remember what I changed the password to.
Is there a backdoor which would allow me to get in and reset the password for the apc account?
Is there a way to find out what I set the password to? I can get console access to 2 of the UPSs and I used the same password for all 30 so if I can get into 1 I will be able to get into all 30.
I have setup InfraStraXure Central Basic with SNMPv3 monitoring of all 30 UPSs. Is there anyway I can use this software to change the password via SNMP or anything else?
Please help. Thanks, Ian.

Hi,
I was able to change the password to the apc account on all 30 UPSs using SNMPv3 from the ISX applicance to each UPS!
Thank god I setup SNMP correctly ... it saved my bacon.
Ian.

Ian,
I kindly request you to call in the APC Customer Care Center at 1-800-800-4272 or http://www.apc.com/support/index.cfm as they can provide you the back door password of your NMC card.
You may view the below K-base document which explains the the password recovery procedure on the NMC.
http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=8091
I do not think that you can recover the password which you had set before even if you get the back door password.
I hope that it helps.

yes, techie is right. you can only reset the password if you do not know it using the knowledgebase article he provided. there is no backdoor password on this card and you also will not be able to see what the password is currently set to, only reset it to a username/password of apc/apc.
