Group event action notification is not staying disabled

Hello -

I have a frustrating issue I'm hoping someone can help me resolve.

Info-
Model: Smart-UPS 700 RM
Firmware Revision: 52.11.D

My workflow:

Administration>Notification>Event Actions by Group

Select 'Events by Severity' radial

and then Check 'Informational' only.

Next

Select 'Email Recipients' Radial

Next

select top two email addresses "XXX@XX.com" and "XXY@XX.com"

Next

Select Radial next to 'Disable Notifications'

Next

Confirm and Apply

I then get a screen that tells me "Actions have been successfully applied." and allows me to click 'Finish'

I've seemingly disabled those notifications, however, when I go back and check, they're enabled again.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks much for any assistance you can render!

under (Event Action Config), yes, there should be more - you should see ALL of the events the NMC is able to send/report in the event log to you about the UPS and network management card itself. that is strange.

i forgot what you had said prior and you only want to disable informational events but still want to get all the warning and critical events. sorry about that.

i would suggest downloading that config.ini, delete the entire (event action config) section (and also maybe remove the (NetworkEMAIL section just incase theres something funny going on with that) out of the bottom of it, and save it on your computer. then go to the card and go to Administration->General->Reset/Reboot and reset the card to defaults EXCEPT or EXCLUDING TCP/IP. then configure the notifications and disable ALL informational, warning, and critical. test the self test to see if you get it. if not, then go back and ENABLE notifications for only critical and warning the way that you want them. then go to Administration->General->user config file and browse for that config.ini you edited so it will upload all the rest of the settings you had for the other areas of the card. alternatively, you could reconfigure it all over again if you wanted.

when you are going back to the initial configure by group screen, the radio button just defaults back to "Enable Notifications" even though they arent enabled. As long as you got the message that settings were successfully applied, they should be. I tried it myself to make sure and confirm my belief.

What we can do is go through and disable the notifications and apply the settings, then you can check the config.ini file on the card and make sure notifications arent enabled for the events you disabled. You can view config.ini through ftp:// or you can open FTP session directly with the card and download the file config.ini and look at the bottom of it.

FYI, when the events are NOT configured for notifications, it should look similar to this (you will see brackets like this '[' and ']' but the HTML coding of the forum translates them to links):

; UPS: The output power is now turned off.
E0114=ES,E[-:::],T[:::::],P[+:+:+:+]

when event notifications are enabled, it will look something like this (I have notifications enabled to repeat every two minutes until the condition clears)

; UPS: The output power is turned off.
E0114=ES,E[--05S+02M-1:::],T[:::::],P[:::]

The E before the brackets are the email configuration, the T is for SNMP traps and P is for paging (even if you dont have an NMC with paging you should see this).

hope this answers your question!

Thanks for the great reply!

I also neglected to mention that when I did disable the notifications, (this is stemming from the bi-monthly self-test) we still got the self-test, that was my first clue that my attempt to disable the notification didn't work. I tried it again yesterday and then tested by initializing a self-test - sure enough, the notification came through (even though I disabled it yet again)

Well, I did what you tried and took a look at the config.ini.. I'm guessing I should see more EventActionConfig entries than I do.. See below for the entire section (pasted it here)

Is there something flaky going on with this config.ini? The fact that the entry doesn't appear to be there might be a reason why the setting isn't sticking?

hm yes it doesnt look like the settings are getting set in the config.ini since you can still see the numbers after the E for email.

to confirm you should be doing the following:

Logging and going to Administration->Notification->Events (on the left hand side)->By Group->Events by Severity (with Information, Warning and Critical all selected)->Push Next->Choose the radio button for Email recipients->Push Next->Select your email recipient->Push Next->Select the radio button for Disable Notifications->Push Next->Confirm the following screen says "Define event actions for these groups: Severity: Informational, Warning, Critical | When the event condition occurs, the following recipients will not be notified: email@yourdomain.com." ->Push apply->Confirm you receive the message that says "Actions have been successfully applied."

i believe you are doing this correctly but I just want to confirm. If not, try the above steps. I did it as I typed it out so there should be no errors ๐Ÿ˜‰

if this still doesnt work, i'd download the config.ini via FTP so you have a copy then try resetting the card to defaults excep TCP/IP and going through the steps above to see what happens. then we can delete the event configuration off of the config.ini card and then upload the rest of the config.ini to the card under the Administration->General->User config file option so that the rest of your settings besides the event notification will be copied back over to the card. i can clarify that further if you need it when we get to that step.

Thanks much, I picked a winna -

The only difference between what you described and what I did is I only selected 'Informational Events' and not all as you had mentioned.

Also - should there be more entries in the event actions config section of the config.ini than what I listed? I only count 9 entries.
