Firmware for AP8641X629 PDU's
At my current facility I have several switched PDU's, which are AP8641 in many ways but not quite: the full model # is AP8641X629 . There's no mentioning of them on the APC website, I believe they're a past custom variant of some sort.
The firmware on them is quite old, and I'd like to update it to the latest available for AP8641. However, the update tool errors:
"Firmware distribution does not match the target device platform."
1. Is it indeed due to the model mismatch?
2. Is there a current firmware (from the last couple of years) available for the AP8641X629 , that I can obtain and update to?

So actually… it seems more like a bug in the Windows updater tool.
I got the same exact error on "vanilla" AP8641 PDUs that we have.
For the heck of it, I selected FTP transfer method instead of SCP (SCP is the default, and I am used to more trouble with FTP, passive/active modes etc.)… and lo and behold, it worked just fine. Both on the AP8641, and on two AP8641X629 units. Suddenly the firmware distribution does match the target device platform… update completed successfully, and everything seems to be functioning as intended.
FYI, all PDUs were reset to factory defaults prior to attempting the fw updates.
