We have a SRT8KXLI UPS (3 phase input), for a small server room, which we wish to feed from a back up generator. Do you have any advice or documents relating to this application?

Here are two APC FAQ's that provide some guidance and insight:
https://www.apc.com/ca/en/faqs/FA158842/
https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA158891/
At the end of the day your team will need to measure the power being produced and sent to the outlet. It's not enough to just measure the line voltage but the frequency and harmonics being supplied. The UPS will provide a rough / general reading as to what is being received. But, you'll want to monitor with a power quality analyzer to know for sure the incoming power is clean, distortion free, and maintains a solid output.
Key take away from the APC FAQ is to lower the sensitivity of UPS if required (break fix). Insure the generator is sufficiently sized to provide the needed power draw for the load in question.
