Faulty Batteries of Symmetra LX

Dear all,

I am having two Symmetra LX (8KVA UPS scalable to 16 KVA). The UPS is currently of 12KVA. This UPS was brought a year before and since then I am having problem with it. After running the UPS for few days some of its batteries went bad and reported faulty. I replaced the battery module with the new one. But as the days passed the faulty batteries started increasing. Now the two UPS are almost having 23 faulty module only three of them are working. The UPS reports the batteries are faulty but as I brought the UPS Batteries in my workshop and opened the cover I could see 10 smaller batteries in each module. All the smaller batteries seems fully charged and no problem with it. I could even see one small PCB card inside the module which might controll the output of batteries I guess. I interchanged the smaller batteries of the faulty battery model with that of good one and found that the problem was with PCB.
Had anyone faced the similar problem and if not can anyone have the solution for this. I can give some more information if required.

Please visit following link for the UPS http://apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SYA8K16PXR
And following link for batteries module http://apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SYBT5

Every reply will be highly appreciated.

Has a call been placed to APC technical support?

Although they would not ask you to swap PCB or open the battery modules, they may be able to provide some insight on the problem that you are having. It seems that it may be a communication issue, since the voltage on the batteries was tested.

Was the voltage from the connector on the back tested?

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

The batteries were around 2-3 month as they started to fail. The back of battery measures 120 V with all Batteries connected in series. The batteries seems no problem.

When at first time around 12 batteries gone bad, I had a call with APC and they supplied warrenty for that and as the batteries still started reporting fail by UPS I did not logged the case. There are around 23 batteries faile in present contest form 26 in two UPS.

Thanks again for your reply.

With this many batteries reporting faulty, the best line of resolution would be to talk to a member of our Enterprise Account Support team over the phone to gather information and troubleshoot the scenario. They can be reached at 888-278-0350.

Thank you.
