Fans in ALL models of SMT units?

Need a Smart-UPS for my XPS-9000. Been reading (in various places) about the fan on the SMT-1000. Apparently there is a solution of sorts but it's only discussed off line with APC support.

Are there any lower rated units (750) that do not have the fan?

This Dell is pretty quite compared to my old computer and I don't want to ruin my new found silence with a noisy UPS.

Thanks. I need one now so I can't wait for the 1000 and up units to be fixed. I'll just dedicate the 750 to the CPU.

I could just get the 750 and upgrade to the 1000 in a couple of years I guess. But now I noticed a review for the 750 on the APC product page that mentions the unit is noisy. The reviewer didn't elaborate.

Then there's a review on Amazon that notes "Moreover, it's quiet and doesn't suffer from the always-on fan noise of more powerful models."

Well now that's encouraging. I'd rather have the 1000. Do I need to wait for a specific revision to reach the store shelves?

That noise I can understand and put up with. All 8 of my UPS's make some sort of noise when on battery.

Thought I'd close this out by saying that it's quiet as a mouse. Even on battery you have to get close to hear any noise. Nice unit!

Hi, I did get a SMT1000 and it was noisy but I talked to the agent at UPS and told him about it being so noisy and they sent me another one that is so quite I can't hear it at all and it works great! APC did a great job of helping me out with this problem, I can't say enough about how well they handled the problem. Great Job APC !
