Hi-
I am under a lot of pressure to make sure that our system doesn't go down in the event of a sustained outage. Does anyone know about APC's extended run time solutions? And it would be great if you could tell me which one you think is the best. Thanks.

Just realized I should probably explain a little more about fuel cells & SmartGen. APC offers a fuel cell that connects to the UPS’ battery bus, and provides clean energy for extended runtime situations through the UPS.
On the other hand, APC also offers a Smart Gen solution in conjunction with an automatic transfer switch( ATS) to provide an alternative energy supply when the utility power is unavailable.

I've heard of the "SmartGen" System.... what makes it so smart?

Two Reasons.
1) APC took a systems approach to designing the SmartGen, and hence it is sized and configured to match other offerings in their product line without the need for customer engineering.
2) SmartGen have an advanced sensing system to provide vital signs of the diesel generator both in standby and during operation. The sensing system also feeds a remaining runtime calculator and is capable of communicating with APC?s InfraStruXure Manger monitoring system so the SmartGen can be remotely monitored.
And in case you were wondering the SmartGen is presized. Generator sizing is based on the UPS system size to be supported, with allowances for additional loads such as cooling, lighting, security, etc.
