Howdy, all.
I have a problem I can't seem to resolve on my own. I have a SmartUPS 5000 which I replaced batteries on. Now I need to connect a laptop to it and use the software to tell it what I did.
I have laptop with Windows 7 on it and a console cable hooked up, but I can't seem to figure out what combination of software to install/use in order to manage this UPS. I have a disk with PowerChute Business edition on it and I've tried installing the server and console, but I can't get further than that. I don't need to do anything except access this UPS this one time to update the install date and possibly run a calibration as the battery capacity lights did not change when I was switching out the batteries at all.
Any help out there for a newbie?

Hi Tom,
For a Smart-UPS, you'll want to focus on PowerChute Business Edition (PCBE) and the Agent component. The Agent is what actually talks to the UPS via USB or serial connection. The server component would monitor multiple agents on your network and the console would connect to the server and give you a graphical UI to see all of your Agents. If you just have one UPS, then we just need to install the agent on the computer physically attached to the UPS.
I'd remove the server and console components and let's just start by confirming the cable part number/type you've connected to your UPS. Also, do you have the exact SKU of the UPS from the white sticker on the back? Or can you tell me if it has an LCD screen on the front or not? We need to make sure it is the appropriate APC cable connected and then we can proceed with attempting to install the PowerChute Business Edition agent which after installed, would be accessible via a web page on the computer you installed it or via the IP address of that computer on port 6547 or 3052 - i.e. https://
Also, this may help (PCBE install guide) -> http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/PMAR-9BUL4B/PMAR-9BUL4B_R0_EN.zip
