Hi guys,
Just wondering if I could get some advice.
A couple of days ago we had a power outage overnight. Everything ran fine on battery for about 46 minutes (as to be expected for the load and as the batteries are only 18 months old) but then the batteries were drained and everything shut off. About three hours later the UPS started receiving power again (according to the logs) but as I found out when I went in early to see what was happening, the breaker had tripped so everything was still off. But if the breaker had tripped why would the UPS log that it was receiving power?
I was just wondering what the expected lifespan of this model is as it's 10 years old now so may need replacing? It's also started buzzing which I don't think it was doing before so I am starting to suspect that it may have caused the breaker to trip.
Thanks for the help.
Zak

Coldstart tells you the Network Management Card lost power at some point and does not pertain to the UPS specifically. So, you could have a situation where the Network Management Card comes online but the UPS does not provide output power. But regardless, yes it does sound strange based on the rest of the scenario.

Hello,
The design life of majority of the UPS models we provide are 6-10 years. I believe this one we usually say 10 years so I would definitely start budgeting for replacement as you sort of eluded to.
I'd have to look at the logs to try and explain the behavior you saw (Instructions here on getting those, event.txt, data.txt, and config.ini -> How can I download Event, Data, Configuration, and Debug files from my Network Management Card? | FA...). I assume the breaker you refer to is the breaker at your panel or was it one of the breakers directly on the UPS?

Thanks very much for the info Angela.
Yep it was the breaker on the main panel for the building that feeds directly to the UPS. A couple of others had tripped too.
I've had a look in the logs and there isn't anything really obvious. In the event log there's the loss of power at just after 00.30am then the warnings that it's on battery until 45 minutes later when the output is turned off due to the discharged batteries. Then at 04.15am there's a coldstart message and a couple of minutes later a " A discharged battery condition no longer exists." message (the data logs back this up too as all the voltage data is no longer at 0.0). The weird thing is everything looks normal from then onwards in all the logs but when I got in at 08.15am we had two racks that were definitely not on (including the UPS) and a tripped breaker. Weird,
Anyway, as it's pretty old, I guess we'll have to start looking for a replacement.
