Email Problem

Hi all,

The first time I posted this it crashed but the post shows, I'll try again.

We have 722 devices (UPS's PDU's) scattered all over Australia my problem is as follows

I worked out how to bulk change the config.ini files in each device to set up email notifications. What I would like to know is there a way to bulk change the config.ini files to remove the tick for email on each notification event. After this is completed I would then bulk change the config file to email on specific events only i.e. on battery, high temp etc.

Looking forward to any suggestions

Thanks

Phil

I see what you mean. The Override and UPSOverride keywords protect the sections they are in so they aren't accidentally applied to other units. However you're not trying to apply those sections, just the EventActionConfig section.

I think if you're only loading the EventActionConfig section, and your NMCs share the same firmware, there won't be any errors. But also for your use, the errors only indicate trying to change an event that doesn't exist on the particular unit -- rather harmless.

Hi Phil,

The easiest way to accomplish this is the following.

1. Disable the email notifications for all events on one of the NMC via the web browser.

2.Download the config file off that NMC

3.Upload that config file to all your other NMC

4.Log back into that NMC and enable the email notification for the events you want.

5.Once done with that download the config file again from this one NMC

6.Upload this config file to all your NMC

At this point you should be good to go

Thanks Michael,

I'll give that a go I should have thought of doing it that way;

Michael,

I followed the steps outlined in your response, a couple of questions

  • Please see the attached section of the log file for the UPS I uploaded the changed config.ini file (using two test UPS's) with just a couple of events activated to send emails.
  •  Will there be any problems with upload the new config.ini file is from another UPS with different a TCPIP configuration, as shown in the attachment there are errors on the log file.
  • At this moment I'm hesitant to try this out on our production UPS's and PDU's.

Looking forward to your response,

Phil.

Hi Phil,

The .ini file is made up of several section whose names are [in brackets], and keywords in each section. You can eliminate the ones you don't want to change. To reconfigure email for certain events, you can eliminate everything but the "EventActionConfig" section, and eliminate events you do not wish to configure. Then, only the changes listed in the .ini will be applied, with everything else remaining as-is.

Voidstar,

Thanks for your input to my problem, but the whole issue is de-selecting email on each notification event. Michael's suggestion of de-selecting the email on one UPS and then downloading the config.ini and then uploading to another UPS works, but with error messages in the log file.

I did some more research yesterday and it seems that as the MAC address of the config.ini file that I'm uploading is different to the MAC address of that UPS it ignores selected lines in the config.ini file.

What I would really like if possible is a single switch (flag) that could be upload to a UPS to turn off email on all events. Then as you suggested (I've already used this procedure previously), just upload the individual changes required to the config.ini file.

Looking forward to any suggestions

Phil
