Now that we have all of our NMC configurations questions answered, and configurations in place, how can we export them to "upload" to NMC rollouts? There is an option to "upload a configuration file", on the NMC but we don't know how to export a configuration file in the first place. How is this done? Is there a separate tool to create the file? Must it be created manually?

The configuration file can be downlaoded from any one of your NMCs via ftp session. Make sure that the FTP server service is eneabled on the card, and you can ftp to it, and download the config file.

Excellent. Thanks Dirtfoot!
One problem: I assumed the web interface credentials would be the same for FTP, but I can't get on? At firmware version 3.5.5. What am I doing wrong? I see that enabling FTP may require a reboot, but these have all been set enabled from the go.

When you update the username and password for the NMC, it should update the username and password for the FTP session. I would try using the default of apc for both username and password or possibly changing your username and password to something different and back to the current one you are using in case it didn't take the first time. Let me know the results.
Another utility that may be helpful for you if you are performing multiple config file updates can be found here:
ftp://ftp.apcc.com/apc/public/hardware/nmcard/firmware/
The utility is called the iniutil.exe. Download it and execute, it will ask you to unzip and should produce 5 files. The readme.doc explains how to use the utility for mass upgrades.

Thanks Grenade.. and an additional note that some may find helpful.
The iniutil.exe file does its work via FTP for both upload and download... FTP can operate in Passive mode or Standard mode... most modern systems do not utilize Standard mode because it causes problems with firewalls. The APC does operate in Standard mode.
If you are behind a firewall and your APC is outside of your firewall (perhaps behind its own firewall), your iniutil.exe sessions may fail with error:
"Error, INI files not supported"
--Standard mode forces the FTP server (the APC) to initiate FTP sessions BACK to you for file transfers (goofy, but created prior to widespread use of firewalls)
--This problem is firewall-dependent... enterprise class firewalls like Cisco, Juniper/Netscreen, etc can deal with this if configured properly.
--To confirm this is your issue: manual FTP sessions will also fail to download, list files with "ls", etc
Your workaround is to either:
a) get around the firewall by installing iniutil.exe on a machine in the data center with your APC units
b) second workaround is via the GUI.. System -> Tools > User Config File -> Upload .. and still use your .ini files for upload, just one file at a time
Cheers,
Ken
