Hi
Can anyone help with this problem?
I have inherited a UPS 5000, with network card which has been quietly minding its own business for a while. I would like to set up alerts so that it can alert us by email if there are any serious events and/or server room temperature reaches a high temp (using environmental monitor)
I have managed to find the serial cable and use this set the IP address via hyperterminal
However, the device does not give any response when I ping it from the network, or get any response when I use the ping utility from the UPS, which means that it cannot send email alerts and we cannot manage it via browser from IT
The device is connected via a cisco switch and has auto-negotiated a half-duplex connection at both ends. The lights on the network card are solid green connection and flashing amber, and the switch port light is blinking away merrily.
Where do I go next?
Thanking you in advance

can you get us the exact model and serial number off of the card? you can get this in the serial interface or pull the card out of the UPS and get it off the sticker. before you do so, let us know the exact model and serial number off the white sticker on the UPS first. depending on UPS model, there might be precautions you need to take upon removing the card from the UPS.
one thing we can check first is making sure web access is enabled for the card. that is in the settings some place that we can tell you once we find out what card this is. if you don't want to pull the card out at any point to get the model/serial, we could also try reflashing the firmware on the card first so once we find the model, we can pursue that avenue as well. lastly, we may end up resetting the card to defaults except TCP/IP.
also, when you login to the card, no matter what model it is, it should provide you with firmware versions on the top right of the screen as well as a status that looks something like P+N+A+ so please tell us all of that info that you see if possible.
thanks!
