I bought a used APC SMT750 and a used AP9631. The AP9631 came with firmware 6.5.0, and I wanted to update it to the latest.
The latest is SFSUMX708, which explicitly lists “SmartUPS” and “AP9631”. So I downloaded it and ran it on my Windows VM.
What resulted was a failure:
[01/28/2023 13:36:15] Unable to update device 192.168.1.9 with Boot Monitor, stopping all further processing of this device!
[01/28/2023 13:36:15] Uploading firmware file 1 of 3: Boot Monitor to 192.168.1.9, please wait...
[01/28/2023 13:36:15] Firmware distribution does not match target device platform; this could be due to a corrupt distribution.
[01/28/2023 13:36:14] Downloading and verifying configuration file from 192.168.1.9, please wait.
[01/28/2023 13:21:291 NMC Firmware Update Utility v1.0.4 initialized.
The web interface started vending “The Application Was Not Able to Load ... Please login to the device via telnet for more details.” So I telnet-ed in:
apc>system
E000: Success
Host Name Sync: Disabled
Name: apc06C7FB
Contact: Unknown
Location: Unknown
Message:

User: apc
Up Time: 0 Days 0 Hours 0 Minutes
Stat: P+ N4+ N6+ A-
Bootmon: Invalid Module Header!
AOS: Invalid Module Header!
App: Invalid Module Header!
So everything installed is toast. I was able to ftp in, so that’s still working:
ftp> ls
229 Entering Extended Passive Mode (|||53298|).
150 File status okay; about to open data connection.

but I’m kinda wary now.
I can’t find something that matches my situation. Should I try to push this version of the firmware via FTP? Is there a better version or release to try?
Thanks.

Upon recommendation I used FTP to push the files, and it worked.
