We have had multiple plant closures and are receiving UPS' back from the sites and we have several more sitting in our Asset room. What would you recommend be the best way to test the UPS'?
My thought was this:
1. Pre-configure a AP9617 MGMT Card for testing
2. Place card inside SUAXXXXRM UPS
3. Plug UPS into wall
4. Power UPS on.
5. Place a test server (DL380 G5) on the UPS.
6. Pull power and see if the UPS will support the load.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Immediately connect every UPS' battery and allow to charge overnight. Then, if desired, you can do a run-time test to see if batteries are holding charge to the specs.
If you don't want to go through that, make sure you charge overnight, then disconnect the battery (on larger units, you can use the disconnect on the back). This needs to be repeated every six months or so, or else the battery pack will be destroyed and must be replaced.

that is a good test to see if the UPS provides its main function of battery back up but who knows if there is anything else wrong with it?
definitely recommend making sure the batteries are connected before you get going and make sure you are braindeading the UPS before you place the network mangagement card inside (or removing) the UPS.
to do that:
You need to power down all attached equipment and unplug it from the UPS. You then need to power down the UPS and unplug it from the utility power. Also, make sure that all communication cables are removed. Now, you want to hold down on the "off (o)" button until you hear an audible click (if not, proceed after 10 seconds anyway). Now, the internal circuitry of the UPS is reset, and you should be able to plug the UPS in, turn it on, and attach all your equipment.
that procedure will ensure the card doesnt get damaged upon installation/removal.
hopefully there are no other problems to worry about 😉
