Adjust charging one 2200 XLs

Is there way to adjust the charging on a 2200 Xls?
Ours seems to be continually overcharging the batteries.
What is the normal voltage range on fully charged batteries for this unit?

Thank you

Thank you so much for your time and effort in posting. Now I realize this is getting deeply proprietary, but, I have seen people on the forums use what has been coined the APC Smart Protocol to adjust the voltage gain and reduce the output voltage using a dumb terminal interface, this may be what you're referring to. This has been reported to work better on some units more than others. It has been reported on the 1500 series to reduce float voltage but on the 2200, it only changes the reported voltage. I have also read that people replace the charging capacitor that usually goes out, and, I wouldnt mind replacing this.

I am a skilled and adept engineer, so changing capacitors and reprogramming is not something I have any qualms about and realise all the issues regarding "at my own risk" and if it gives me another year before I trade up, it would be worth it.

As far as operations, it is not working correctly and I can only presume this is, again, a voltage calibration issue, it reports a variable run time, now it reports 11% load and 14minutes of run time. It should be over 45 -60 minutes of run time at this load level, which tells me it is not calibrated properly.

Michael

There is no way to change the charging operation of the batteries. What voltages are you seeing? The nominal voltage is usually a bit lower than the average float voltage (which is generally about 54/55v for float and what youll actually see.). This is normal.

ok so that is perfectly fine. as mentioned already, this is the correct float voltage for the 48v battery in this UPS.

from the various threads on the forum you have posted on, it appears your unit is very old. since then, battery management has been severely improved on those types of UPSs to avoid issues like this.

i cant find the thread on it now but i thought there was one a while ago about what to adjust in the UPS that you could do at your own risk. i will see if i can find it.
