Adding a second AP9626 to a Smart-UPS 5000 RM

The step-down transformer attached to our Smart-UPS 5000 RM starting making failing fan noises so I have installed a replacement AP9626. Can I just plug the new one into one of the available 208V outlets in the back of the UPS and start migrating equipment off the old one when convenient?

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I think it will be as simple as that. Whatever you're doing, you just need to make sure you don't exceed the output load capacity of the UPS. I am not sure how much load capacity you are currently using but I'd check that out first to make sure it is not like 99% - the transformer itself may use up a small amount of wattage to power itself. And make sure with the second AP9626, nobody plugs additional load in versus swapping the load over to the second transformer as you're suggesting.

Thus, the only concern would be to make sure you somehow don't go over 100% of the load capacity and overload the UPS (in which case it will alarm you and start making a constant tone and have a red LED on the front panel). If the load goes way over 100%, then the UPS eventually will turn off.

Thanks very much. We are in good shape capacity-wise but I will baby-proof the old transformer's outlets as they become available to discourage anyone who is too smart to read a sign that says "don't use" or whatever else I go with.
