Accessing Network Management Card #AP9619

Hello All-

We have a Network Management Card #AP9619 in our SymmetraF UPS. Card has activity lights and such but we cannot seem to access it over our LAN. Is there a way to reset the card to DHCP? I did see a little reset pin area on the back plate of the card but am not convinced it actually reset. The way I see it, if it reset to defaults it should puick up an IP address right away. I scoped my LAN with Orion Lan Surveyor, however and could not see it anywhere. FYI- I already found this KB article and seem to be at an impasse.

If the reset function isn't working the card probably has had a Static IP configured. I'm not sure what type a SymmetraF UPS is but the larger Symmetra systems allow you to serial into the NMC via the serial port using the 0024C or D cable. Do you have this cable? DO NOT TRY TO SERIAL IN WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THIS CABLE, YOU RISK A LOAD LOSS WITH A NORMAL SERIAL CABLE.

Thanks for the reply- unfortunately we do not have the desigamated serial cable. And yes, I had heard stories of that problem before so I resisted the temptation of digging out a standard RS-232 cable. I thought that maybe you could shunt a pin or two together to reset it while under power than power down and remove the card and remove the shunt. I will pull the card again and look at the reset recess, maybe we didn't hit it correctly.

I just had a hair-brained idea...maybe connect the NM card to a small switch or better yet hook up a LAN crossover cable and check it with a laptop. Maybe a netstat or other command might show me what the IP of the card is. I suppose I could even use my laptop (with LAN surveyor on it) this way and let it discover what the IP of the card is... just a thought...

Try to configure you nmc with the apc software ( APC device ip configuration wizard) linked with network cable to your nmc, and don't forget to configure the lan port of pc with the same range of ip address.
example if you need to configure the nmc with tcp/ip:192.168.1.4, the configuration tcp/ip of your pc port must be :192.168.1.10
if you want to make your own serial cable to communicate with the nmc through serial com,i can give you the pin configuration upon request.
NOTE: the reset button is not useful without the serial com and hyper terminal program.
