Hello,
we are planning to upgrade firmware on several racks PDU. In regards to the model APC8941 documentation indicates bootmon, AOS and application (rpdu2g) file update is required. We are planning uploading using ftp or scp. What is not clear from the documentation is whether any of those upgrade fill impact normal power supply operation during PDU flash/reload. We are not concerned about PDU's network management, rather power supply to attached devices impact. As we have deployed different PDU models and APC8941 is one among them in production, this can be considered a general upgrade question.
Thank you,
Luca

The bootmon, aos, and RPDU app files are all applied to the network management card itself. I read Bill's statement the same way you do. In all the devices I work with (UPSes) device functionality is done by a separate processor.

Hi,
You can upgrade the firmware on the network card without taking the load down. The card/s will reboot but power will not be cut to the load.

Hi Bill,
Just to make sure my understanding is correct, by upgrading the firmware on the network card you mean upgrading all three files, bootmon, AOS and rpdu2g files on the Network Management Card?
Thank you,
Luca

Only AOS and RPDU2G files are absolutely required, but you can upgrade bootmon also.

I am under the assumption nor bootmon, AOS and RPDU2G upgrade are impacting outlet's power supply capabilities. In other words none of those upgrades will stop normal power supply operations during the firmware upgrade. Is it my assumption correct?
Previous reply from Bill seems to validate my assumption however what I was not sure about is whether "firmware on the network card" are just bootmon, AOS and RPDU2G files.
